Seafish Sea Survival

One day course, cost £160 (Discounted to £140 if paid in advance)

This course must be completed prior to going to sea.

Objectives

  1. Understand the principles of sea survival
  2. Understand the correct application and usage of sea survival equipment
  3. Have developed practical survival skills.

Seafish Basic Health and Safety for New Entrants

One day course, cost £140 (discounted to £120 if paid in advance)

This course must be completed within 3 months of starting on a commercial fishing boat.

Objectives

  1. Introduce basic terminology associated with work in the fishing industry.
  2. Introduce personal roles and responsibilities.
  3. Introduce the dangers and associated safe methods of work.

Seafish First Aid

One day course, cost £140 (discounted to £120 if paid in advance)

This course must be completed within 3 months of starting on a commercial fishing boat.

Objectives

  1. Be able to apply effective first aid
  2. Be able to perform effective CPR
  3. Be able to recognise life threatening conditions
  4. Know how to call for appropriate assistance

Seafish Fire Fighting

One day course, cost £160 (discounted to £140 if paid in advance)

This course must be completed within 3 months of starting on a commercial fishing boat.

Objectives

  1. Understand the principles of fire fighting
  2. Understand how to use basic fire fighting equipment
  3. Have developed the practical skills needed to successfully operate basic fire fighting equipment.

Seafish Safety Awareness/Risk Assessment

One day course, cost £140 (discounted to £120 if paid in advance)

This course must be completed within the first 2 years of working on a commercial fishing boat. It is usually taken after 6 months experience.  Candidates will receive a “Safety Folder” if they need one to start recording Risk Assessments and other relevant Safety Information.

Objectives

  1. To remind participants of the dangers associated with fishing.
  2. To stimulate an interest in safety.
  3. To provide practical tips on maintaining and improving safety.
  4. To provide participants with contacts for further information regarding safety.
