The Seafish introduction to commercial fishing course is a 3 week course open to new entrants seeking to work on UK registered the commercial fishing boats.

It is open to everyone over the age of 16 with no upper age limit and includes all the UK Seafish mandatory courses along with  training in areas such as net mending, rope work and catch handling.

Full funding is available. Seafish will interview possible candidates and entrants successfully completing the course will receive a full set of oily’s, boots, gloves and a life jacket.

Course content

The Introduction to Commercial Fishing (ICF) course gives new entrants a basic knowledge and awareness of different activities that are commonplace aboard commercial fishing vessels.

It is a three week course. It includes four mandatory one-day courses which are legally required to work on a fishing vessel. These are:

  • sea survival,
  • health and safety,
  • first aid and
  • firefighting

17 March 2025 – 21 March 2025
